Throughout this incredibly comprehensive three-part course, producers Chris Octane and Liam O'Mullane invite you to join them in the studio, where you can observe their methods and advanced techniques for creating a serious, atmospheric Drum & Bass track. Currently producing as part of newly-formed outfit 'colo[r]', Chris and Liam bring together a veritable mountain of experience in electronic music production, DJing and sound design. Part one focuses on the Drum and Bass groove: Colo[r] use a variety of novel synthesis and sampling techniques to create the different drums, bass and percussion elements, before fine tuning them to complete the foundation of the track. In part two, the duo develop the groove before recording Foley sounds in an outdoors location near the studio, which is combined with a new chords sequence to form an atmospheric intro. Additional arrangement is then carried out, as well as vocal recording and processing, until the track starts to really take shape. In the final section, the duo complete the the track. Working on the arrangement, they develop new parts - showing the incredible level of detail the pros go into when it comes to sound design and texture. To finish, colo[r] walk through the mixing process and demonstrate a basic master - teaching you how to reign in the transients, define the bass and add stereo wideness.
